Thanks to all who came out to the first Council meeting of the school year, and to all who signed up. A list of all this years SES Council members is available here.
The Principal presented the results from some recent initiatives. The outcomes of the School Climate Parent Survey done by the Board last year are now available. EQAO results (from the provincial assessment agency) are also available, which show Stonecrest’s Grade 6s ahead of the curve, while Grade 3s were at par. The Board remains focussed on Math as a targeted area, demonstrated by recently workshops held this past P.A. Day for teachers. For additional information, please contact Principal Cindy Alce.
Teacher updates provided at the meeting included the upcoming Spirit Week (Oct. 15 – 19), clothing sales (closing October 15th; order here), upcoming sports/dates and Halloween festivities, as well as a request for parents to not send in food treats for classes to celebrate birthdays (in light of allergies).
Upcoming Council events and dates to note include CPR/First Aid training on October 20th and the Hot Lunch order deadline of October 25th for November lunches (order here). Note we are approaching a crisis situation when it comes to volunteers to hand out lunch on Tuesday mornings, so please sign up here for a spot if you can; if we don’t have enough volunteers, we may have to cancel the Hot Lunch program.
Our QSP fundraiser will start really soon, so please hold off on renewing your magazine subscriptions and we will aim to help you indulge your cookie cravings.
Our next Council meeting is on Tuesday November 13th, where we will discuss priorities for the coming year including where we want to spend monies raised. Hope to see you then!
